Optofluidic Lenses: Design of an Adaptable Optofluidic Aspherical Lens by Using the Elastocapillary Effect (Advanced Optical Materials 9/2014)
Source abstract
Abstract
On page 874, A. C. Roy and A. Ghatak show that an aspherical lens can be easily made by embedding microchannels in soft elastomeric layers and filling them with a liquid that wets the surface of the elastomer. The channel wall bulges out due to an elasto-capillary effect and assumes an aspherical profile which can be used as an optical lens. Filling the channel with a liquid of the desired color, it is possible to also make a compact lens-filter system.
