Nanoscale Force Measurement with Optical Tweezers: Applications and Future Prospects in Biophotonics (Advanced Optical Materials 21/2025)
Source abstract
Abstract
Nanoscale Force Measurement An optical trapping generated from a Gaussian laser beam traps a microsphere, which interacts with red blood cells, DNA, and proteins, enabling precise force measurements with piconewton-level precision. The fundamental principle of force detection is highlighted by the equation F = kΔx, where F is the force, k is the trap stiffness, and Δx is the displacement of the microsphere. This technique provides a powerful tool for probing biomechanical interactions in nanoscience and biophysics. More details can be found in article 2403140 by Shuwen Zeng, Yuye Wang, Jiajie Chen, and co-workers.
