Surface Nanopatterned Shape Memory Alloy (SMA)‐Based Photosensitive Artificial Muscle (Advanced Optical Materials 5/2022)
Source abstract
Abstract
Inspired by the iris muscle, Sung-Hoon Ahn and co-workers propose a wave-selective shape memory alloy (SMA) artificial muscle, see article number 2102024. The artificial muscle couples photo-sensing and actuation based on the plasmonic metasurface of SMA. Surface-nanopatterning enhances light absorptivity at the infrared, effectively broadening light sources for triggering shape recovery. Practically, microscale actuators demonstrate selective motions for infrared and ultraviolet lasers. Therefore, this research improves photosensitive wave ranges and actuation modes.
