Abstract

A mechanically tunable grating is demonstrated by introducing high refractive-index titanium dioxide (TiO2) nanoscale dot gratings into soft, elastomeric polydimethylsiloxane. In situ diffraction angle measurements of uniaxial strain-induced grating response are backed by finite element modeling of strain distribution. These gratings offer low mechanical impact on the elastomeric substrate as well as excellent linear tunability.
