Abstract

Multiresponsive Liquid Crystal Cilia In article number 2101619, Dirk J. Broer and co-workers prepare an array of liquid crystal polymer micro-cilia of well-defined tapered shape by replicating a track-etched polyimide. The densely packed self-standing cilia show patterned and collective out-of-plane motion in response to ambient changes. The bending motion is preprogrammed by the molecular order electrically imposed during cilia preparation, while the motion magnitude is controlled by the actuation conditions.
