Photogalvanic effects in optically active crystals

Abstract
A new photogalvanic effect called the circular photogalvanic effect is considered. The effect can be induced in optically active crystals by the circularly polarized radiation and changes its sign with the reversal of circular polarization. Interband and intraband mechanisms of the circular photogalvanic effect are discussed. The effect can be used to study the specific properties of optically active crystals by means of photoelectric methods.
