Abstract

Iontronic substance delivery for chemically triggering neurons is demonstrated by Daniel T. Simon and co-workers in article number 1700360. The active refillable ion diode array can deliver precise amounts of neurotransmitters (red cloud over second electrode from left) laterally via electrophoretic transport (red lines, arrows) and vertically through the independently addressed ion diodes at each delivery point. As with all iontronics, substances are transported and delivered without liquid flow.
