Abstract

Abstract This paper explores the comparative analysis of two advanced manufacturing technologies 3D printing and electrospinning, with regard to their efficacy in fabricating porous membranes. Following an examination of the evolution and distinct capabilities of both technologies, the discussion takes into consideration their cost, resolution capabilities, and mechanical properties. While 3D printing offers versatility in material selection and construction methods, electrospinning demonstrates superior fine‐resolution capabilities and resilience in high‐temperature environments. Additionally, scalability emerges as a crucial factor, with 3D printing demonstrating better adaptability to industrial manufacturing needs than electrospinning. Notably, both technologies present unique advantages and limitations, influencing their suitability for specific applications, such as water filtration, desalination, and biomedical devices. By comprehensively examining these factors, this review aims to provide insights into selecting the most appropriate technology based on the requirements of membrane fabrication applications.
