Abstract

Hydrophobic magnetic bimetallic hydroxide nanosheets (HMHNs) are synthesized simple molten salt method for 1 min. The HMHNs are tightly and homogeneously bound to the Cu mesh or sponge surface for use in oil/water separation. Moreover, the HMHNs quickly absorb a highly viscose oil spill floating on the surface of water and viscose oil stabilized in water, and the HMHNs are easily recovered with an external magnet.
