Abstract

In article 1400309, Ertl and co-workers exploit the self-assembly properties of various bacterial surface layer (S-layer) proteins to readily fabricate an anisotropic multi-functional nanobiointerface within microfluidic devices. S-layer proteins with cell-adhesive (rSbsB) and cell-repellant (SbpA), as well as biomolecule-binding capabilities (rSbpA/ZZ) are re-assembled within microchannels for on-chip patterning of co-cultures of mobile with adherent cell types in order to generate multi-functional surface properties.
