Anti‐Biofilms: Novel Anti‐Adhesive Biomaterial Patches: Preventing Biofilm with Metal Complex Films (MCF) Derived from a Microalgal Polysaccharide (Adv. Mater. Interfaces 9/2016)
Source abstract
Abstract
Karina Golberg and co-workers investigate different materials with putative biofilm disrupting characteristics using patches made up of algal-secreted polysaccharide in article 1500486. Copper-polysaccharide complexes are found to have strong anti-biofilm activity, while exhibiting protruding needle-like structures. These nano-structures are hypothesized to prevent bacterial attachment either physically or via bacterial membrane damage, thus forecasting a broad-spectrum anti-biofilm application in both medical and industrial settings (graphics by Omer Levy).
