Abstract

Controlled instability-induced pattern formation is achieved by a moduli-patterning method. Local strains in the relatively soft substrate are higher than those in the hard region once pre-strains are applied. Thus, buckling patterns are initiated preferentially in the soft region, inducing spatially controlled instability-induced pattern formation.
