Water Splitting: Fe2O3–TiO2 Nano‐heterostructure Photoanodes for Highly Efficient Solar Water Oxidation (Adv. Mater. Interfaces 17/2015)
Source abstract
Abstract
The conversion of solar light into hydrogen via photoelectrochemical water splitting paves the way to sustainable energy production in a carbon-neutral fashion. In article number 1500313, D. Barreca, K. Kaunisto and co-workers report on the vapor phase fabrication of Fe2O3-TiO2 photoanodes. Their use enabled a 10-fold activity enhancement compared to bare Fe2O3, with performances of ≈2.0 mA cm−2 at 1.23 V vs. RHE under one-sun illumination. The attractive results even in sea water may open doors to cost-effective energy generation from abundant and renewable natural sources.
