Anisotropic Lattice Distortions in Biogenic Minerals Originated from Strong Atomic Interactions at Organic/Inorganic Interfaces

Abstract
Adv. Mater. Interfaces. 2017, 4, 1600189 In section 3 lattice parameters a of calcite were incorrect. The corrected first paragraph is below: Calcite, the most stable polymorph of calcium carbonate, has a rhombohedral structure (point group and space group Rc, No. 167), which often is presented in a hexagonal setting with lattice parameters, a = 4.988 Å and c = 17.068 Å.[14] Note that the lattice parameters of calcite crystals are very sensitive to Mg-impurities and, therefore, in Ref. [15] most of the structural data available in the literature for Mg-containing calcite samples (geological and synthetic) have been analyzed and extrapolated to zero Mg concentration. This approach gives slightly different lattice parameters, a = 4.98964 Å and c = 17.0673 Å, which we used for further analysis of the organics-mediated lattice distortions in biogenic calcite.
