Abstract

Graphene oxide (GO) based membranes, including pure GO, Al3+-intercalated GO, and poly(ethylene glycol) modified GO, are semi-hydrophilic and possess superior size-selective molecular and ionic sieving capabilities. Altering the interlayer spacing and surface charge via polymer grafting and ion intercalation methods can tune membrane performance such as flux and selectivity.
