Abstract

Spinel magnesium ferrite (MgFe2O4) is a prospective anode material for lithium ion batteries. Here, the extensive density functional calculations enable the rationalization of the essential effect of magnesium ions in tuning the spinel structures of MgFe2O4 and provide design principles to optimize the battery performance.
