Abstract

In conclusion, we designed an experimental setup to study the dynamics of an earthquake rupturing process. With a unique triggering mechanism, we are able to mimic the earthquake ruptures which are spontaneous in nature. We observed supershear earthquake ruptures and furthermore, the subRayleigh to supershear rupture transition. The transition mechanism qualitatively conforms to the well-known Burridge-Andrews mechanism.
