Abstract

The relationship between charge‐storage capacity and π‐topology in conjugated polymers needs to be understood in order to optimize polymer structuress for use in, for example, anodic electrodes in secondary lithium battery elements. Cyclic voltammetry has been used to study the redox behavior of conjugated oligomers related to that shown in the figure. magnified image

9. The small difference between the first oxidation potentials in both series (ΔE =120 mV) is due to the substitution patterns. While all oligomers of the 1 4‐series possess four cation‐stabilizing t‐butyl groups in the terminal units the members of the 1 5‐series carry two substituents in each naphthylene unit.
