Auxetics‐Inspired Tunable Metamaterials for Magnetic Resonance Imaging (Adv. Mater. 6/2022)
Source abstract
Abstract
Tunable Metamaterials In article number 2109032, Stephan W. Anderson, Xin Zhang, and co-workers exploit auxetic structures with a negative Poisson's ratio, exhibiting counterintuitive behaviors, to design mechanically tunable metamaterials in both planar and hemispherical configurations operating at megahertz (MHz) frequencies. Optimized for their application to magnetic resonance imaging (MRI), the proposed tunable metamaterials serve to enhance local magnetic fields and increase the signal-to-noise ratio in magnetic resonance image around 4.5 times.
