Abstract

Thermal imaging using magnetic films is demonstrated by M. Kustov, J. McCord, and co-workers on page 5017. Using specially designed ferrimagnetic garnet layers, the slightest temperature changes are imaged by magneto-optical microscopy. The introduced pyro-magneto-optical imaging scheme offers new opportunities for various thermal-imaging applications. The technique offers high sensitivity over a large temperature range, as well as high spatial and temporal resolution.
