Abstract

A mechanically controllable break junction (MCBJ) has been proved to be a very useful technique to form a single molecule junction due to its unique advantage of excellent mechanical stability. MCBJs have dramatically promoted the development of molecular electronics, as reviewed by Dirk Mayer, Takhee Lee and co-workers on page 4845. The separation of two electrodes can be precisely controlled in sub-Ångstrom accuracy to incorporate single molecule junction by bending or relaxing the substrate.
