Abstract

Bioresorbable mineral coatings on a common orthopedic biomaterial, β-tricalcium phosphate (β-TCP), are used as a temporally controllable protein delivery system. As reported by William L. Murphy and coworkers, mineral coatings can effi ciently bind the proteins, and one or more proteins are released with distinct kinetics by varying the mineral coating properties and incorporating proteins during coating formation.
