Abstract
The molecular dynamics of polymers and liquid crystals (see figure) affect the properties of these materials. The different modes of, for example, relaxation can be studied to great effect using a modern version of an old spectroscopic method—dielectric spectroscopy—which makes use of molecular dipoles to gain an insight into these processes. equation image
