Abstract

In article number 1905554, Joanna Aizenberg and co-workers describe how homeostasis can inspire the design of materials that are both robust and interactive. The inside back cover depicts how pairing a responsive element with a counteracting restoring force (“mini-homeostasis”) can give rise to diverse interactive behaviors, represented by colored dots and patterns that feed into and emerge from the central feedback cycle.
