Abstract

Mid-infrared hyperbolic phonon polaritons are demonstrated on a van der Waals semiconducting layered oxide, α-MoO3, as described in article number 1705318 by Weiguang Xie, Huanjun Chen, Shaozhi Deng, Ningsheng Xu, and co-workers. By using a real-space near-field optical nanoimaging technique, the phonon polaritons are shown to exhibit ultrahigh electromagnetic-field confinement, as well as low damping rates, which can be tuned upon metal-ion intercalation.
