Abstract

The cover picture shows the concept and inspiration for a soft actuated material, in this case the muscular structure of the heart. The image depicts the muscular fibers from the heart inspiring the numerical modeling of the actuators and the design of contractile actuators embedded in a soft matrix, as described in the work by C. J. Walsh and co-workers on page 1200. The composite image design is by Shutterstock, James C. Weaver, Ellen T. Roche and Evelyn J. Park.
