Microembossing of Elastomeric Triblock Copolymers
Source abstract
Abstract
Solid-state embossing of polystyrene/polyisoprene/polystyrene (SIS) triblock copolymers provides a novel route to elastomeric microstructures. Miniaturized or expanded feature sizes and complex patterns (via multiple embossing) are feasible, as well as the application as micrometer-sized diffraction gratings (see Figure). Key properties of the films, elasticity and transparency, are adjustable through the composition of the copolymers.

15. We have also embossed SIS films with a silicon master at 55°C and higher pressures. The embossed features were identical to those obtained from FEP masters. Some samples were cooled down in the press, which was shown to have a minor influence on the embossing quality.

26. The wavelength of the laser pointer is λ = 670 nm. The diffraction relationship is sin(θ) = n(λ/a); where n = the order of diffraction, a = the length between diffraction sources, and θ = the diffraction angle.
