Pure Protein Bilayers and Vesicles from Native Fungal Hydrophobins
Source abstract
Abstract
Pure protein bilayers and vesicles are formed using the native, fungal hydrophobin HFBI. Bilayers with hydrophobic (red) and hydrophilic (blue) core are produced and, depending on the type of core, vesicles in water, oily media, and even in air can be created using microfluidic jetting. Vesicles in water are even able to incorporate functional gramicidin A pores. As a service to our authors and readers, this journal provides supporting information supplied by the authors. 33. Combining Equations 2 and 3 yields ΔW = 2γ – Γ. Typically γ and Γ are given in mN m−1to refer to the vector nature of the interfacial force see Figure 1c and adhesion energies are given in mJ m−2 which is equal to mN m−1.
