Functionalized Mesoporous Hybrid Thin Films as Selective Membranes
Source abstract
Abstract
Mesoporous thin films containing organic functionalities behave like selective membranes. Titania mesoporous films with an accessible cubic mesostructure are deposited on a conductive electrode (see figure). Organic groups (phenyl, hexadecyl, glycerol) are added to the pore surface by post-grafting. The transport properties of electrochemical probes such as ferrocyanide or ferrocenedimethanol within the pore system depend on the grafted functionalities.

38. The synthesis conditions used lead to anIm3mcubic mesostructure (a = 170 Å) oriented with the [110] plane parallel to the surface. This creates a bidimensional pattern withc2msymmetry witha = 240 Å andb = 170 Å. Assuming two pores of 6.5 nm radius per unit cell the pore area should be 64 %.
