Abstract

A water‐soluble phthalocyanine derivative with 16 poly‐oxyethylene side chains which effectively prevent aggregation is reported. The first demonstration of luminescence in a water‐soluble, non‐ionic phthalocyanine in aqueous solution is discussed an important results from the development of effective manomeric dyes for use in phototherapy.

Mass spectra of the different compounds have been obtained by various methods. VI (MW= 296.36) has been analyzed by gas chromatography combined with mass spectroscopy. No molecular peak has then been obtained. Fragments are detected at 219 207 189 175 163 133 121 117 103 87 77 59 57 m/e. By field desorption mass spectroscopy VI has been found at 297.2. Compounds VII and VIII have been analyzed by the same method. VII did not give a molecular mass peak but VIII (MW=744.88) was found at 745.4. la (MW= 3043.0) molecular mass was obtained by FAB mass spectroscopy and Ib (MW= 3044.9) was also obtained at 3045.1H‐NMR (in CDCI3): IV : δ = 4.3 (s 4H) 7.4 (s 2H); VI : δ = 3.25 (s 6H). 3.2 − 3.7 (m 21H) 9.2 − 10.2 (OH); VII : δ = 3.25 (s. 12H). 3.2–3.7 (m. 42H) 4.5 (s 4H) 7.55 (s 2H); VIII: δ = 3.25 (s. 12H) 3.2‐3.7 (m. 42H) 4.65 (s 4H) 7.9 (s 2H); Ib : δ = 3.2 (s. 48H) 3.3‐4.1 (m 168H) 5.3 (s 16H) 9.6 (s 8H).
