FEM analysis of interaction between skid landing gear on the bell 206 and landing surface
Source abstract
Abstract
Abstract Due to some factors such as inequitable distribution of large and time dependent loads in large-sized structures, and deficiency of practical analytical methods, the importance of Finite Element Methods (FEM) seems unavoidable in designing of crash cases. In this study, first a new condition for drop test is suggested and then one design scenario is solved for a specific skid landing gear called Bell 206. The method of solving the problem is characterized via computational tools within Finite Element Methods (FEM) code software. The secondary order (nonlinearity) behavior of material has been assumed. The validity of the solution has been examined by the empirical data gathered in one of the previous work. The most critical component of the structure for each state has been determined and then the stress and force field are plotted. The results revealed that structure plastically yielded in some points after it hit the surface. The unique outcome is that we cannot conclude that if, for example, the angle of the surface increases, maximum stress increases too. The reason is that in a specific condition of the drop, stress is excessively higher than the allowable maximum stress. The purpose of this research is to make a safer condition for occupants that can be obtained through the new proposed drop.
