Abstract

•The CR sheets have been analyzed with the sliver defects.•In sample #1 the slag entrapment of the mold fluxes is the main origin of the defects.•In sample #2 alumina formed is deposited in tundish nozzle entrapped during solidification.•These entrapped translate into long streaks of defects called slivers during CR.
