Advances in Metal–Organic Framework-Based Triboelectric Nanogenerators
Source abstract
Abstract
Since the triboelectric nanogenerator (TENG) was first reported in 2012, it has attracted much attention because of its simple device design; easy access to the environment energy; and wide applications in self-powered sensing, biomedicine, and smart life. Improving the output efficiency and working stability of the device is critical for fulfilling its potential. Improving the material’s surface and dielectric properties is an effective way to achieve a high-performance device, and metal–organic frameworks (MOFs) with excellent designability and functionality have emerged as a promising candidate. High porosity, controllable size, and chemical diversity make them good triboelectric materials and functional fillers for TENG. We introduce in this review the recent research progress of the MOF-based TENG device. We elucidate the characteristics of MOFs favoring the new energy harvesting device; the fabrication of MOFs with desired properties; the strategies to improve the device performance; and finally, the challenges and prospects in this area
