Abstract

Polymer composites are widely used for their lightweight, formability, and cost-effectiveness. Recycling polyethylene terephthalate (PETs) waste into composites presents an eco-friendly solution to mitigate environmental harm. This study investigates the influence of recycled PET bottle particle filler on the mechanical and dynamic properties of glass-fiber reinforced epoxy composites. PET particles were incorporated into the epoxy matrix at 2%, 4%, and 8% weight ratios. Tensile tests revealed that 4% PETs filler increased tensile strength by 20.91% and elastic modulus by 19% compared to unmodified composites. Dynamic analysis demonstrated a 9.38% rise in natural frequency and a 25% enhancement in damping ratio with 4 wt.% of PETs incorporation. However, excessive loading of PETs (8 wt.%) caused agglomeration, reducing mechanical performance. These findings highlight the potential of recycled PETs as a sustainable filler to improve composite properties while addressing waste management challenges.
