Synthesis, photophysical, electrochemical and photoluminescent oxygen sensing studies of trans-Pt(II)-porphyrins

Abstract
Abstract A series of fluorinated trans-porphyrins (1a-6a) bearing thienyl/biphenyl/naphthyl/fluorenyl/pyrenyl moieties were synthesized and characterized by various spectroscopic methods and electrochemical analysis. The scrambled products such as tetrakis(pentafluorophenyl)porphyrin, H2T(PFP)P and tris(pentafluorophenyl)-mono-(aryl) porphyrins (1b-6b), obtained during the synthesis of these trans-porphyrins were also characterized. Four of the porphyrins were structurally characterized by single crystal XRD analysis. The luminescent oxygen sensing properties of the trans-Pt(II)-porphyrins were investigated in solution. Besides, the sensing properties of the complexes were compared in three different polymer films such as IMPEK-C, ethyl cellulose (EC) and poly(methylmethacrylate) (PMMA). The results revealed that the EC-porphyrin films show better sensitivity and good photostability than the other two films. The highest Stern-Volmer quenching constant of 0.096 Torr−1 was obtained for EC-Pt-3a which is 1.4 fold higher than the commonly used Pt(II)-(pentafluorophenyl)porphyrin.
