Repeated Recovery of Rare Earth Elements Using a Highly Selective and Thermo‐Responsive Genetically Encoded Polypeptide (Adv. Funct. Mater. 13/2022)
Source abstract
Abstract
Recyclable Rare Earth Element Biosorbents In article number 2109158, Inchan Kwon and co-workers develop a protein adsorbent that achieves the rapid, selective, and scalable extraction and recovery of rare earth elements (REEs). Elastin-like polypeptide and the REE-binding domain are fused to form the REE-sensitive and thermo-responsive protein adsorbent. The protein adsorbent recovers REEs from the mixture with non-REEs during at least six repeated cycles. Moreover, the protein adsorbent recovers the majority of REEs from steel slag leachate, a potential industrial source of REEs.
