Microfluidics: An All Hydrophilic Fluid Diode for Unidirectional Flow in Porous Systems(Adv. Funct. Mater. 36/2018)
Source abstract
Abstract
Capillary flow is always continuous without external driving pressure in a hydrophilic environment, but it tends to be bi-directional or radial. In article number 1800269, Dahua Shou and Jintu Fan report a novel all-hydrophilic fluid diode made of porous materials. Asymmetric pores facilitate capillary flow only in a chosen direction. Potential applications include microfluidic valves, oil-water separators, or sweat-transport in functional clothing.
