Abstract

This image portrays a top view of three “biobots” in a culture dish covered in media. In article number 1801145, Rashid Bashir and co-workers use computational modeling to design and optimize their function and performance. These thumb-sized biohybrid biological machines can generate milli-Newton range forces when electrically stimulated, and can walk at the surface of the Petri dish for distances of about a centimeter in tens of seconds.
