Abstract

In this work, a band insertion strategy by 7,7,8,8-tetracyanoquinododimethane (TCNQ) loading is applied to modulate the band gap of a ruthenium metal–organic framework, [Ru3(btc)2Cl1.5] (btc = 1,3,5-benzenetricarboxylate, Ru-MOF). After TCNQ loading, TCNQ@Ru-MOF exhibited a narrower band gap of 0.68 eV than 2.06 eV of pristine Ru-MOF, consistent with observations in corresponding density functional theory calculation. Furthermore, under irradiation of 980 nm laser, an enhanced photothermal property with a photothermal conversion efficiency of 29.1% was achieved by TCNQ@Ru-MOF.
