A Novel Body Force‐Loaded Cold Expansion Method for Improving the Fatigue Endurance of Thin Fasteners
Source abstract
Abstract
A novel electromagnetic method excited by a single power supply system is proposed to improve the durability of 6061‐T6 thin‐walled holed plates under cyclic loading. Its stress state and deformation behavior are studied through three‐dimensional simulation and verified by XRD residual stress measurements. The radially outward Lorentz force that causes the main plastic deformation of the holed fastener appears during the rapid current decay stage, and the maximum tangential residual stress can reach −365 MPa. Fatigue life tests show that, under an external load of S max = 200 MPa, compared with the initial fastener, this electromagnetic method can increase the fatigue life by 5.70 times, which is higher than the 4.03 times of the conventional cold expansion method.
