Abstract

Lattice materials possess high strength at very low density. Miniaturizing their features to microscopic dimensions enables benefi cial mechanical size effects to be exploited. It is shown that the strength of ceramic-polymer composite microlattices doubles when their size is scaled down by 50%. Isotropic strength under tension and compression was achieved when observed size-dependent notch effects were accounted for. Further details can be found in the article by J. Bauer and co-workers on page 1537.
