Abstract

More and more, magnesium alloys are being used as materials for safety components. Therefore, an assessment of the structural durability is very important with regard to the product liability requirements. Within the scope of the Fraunhofer WISA‐project “Leichtbau mit Magnesium” (lightweight construction with magnesium), the use of different magnesium alloys as materials for safety components is investigated. In this communication, some of the steps in assessing the structural durability of a cast vehicle component of the magnesium alloy AS21X are presented.
