Liquid-Phase Coating of Carbon Fibers with Pre-Ceramic Polymer Precursors: Process and Applications
Source abstract
Abstract
A continuous liquid-phase process for the production of ceramic-coated carbon fibers was performed by the authors in pilot-plant size. Fibers were dip-coated in a reactor filled with a blend of poly(bora)silazanes and phenolic resins as ceramic precursors, an organic solvent and additives. Drying, crosslinking, pyrolysis, and ceramization in four furnaces under inert gas and coiling finishes the product. The fiber coating perform a significant oxidation protection.
