Bioinspired Design of Isotropic Lattices with Tunable and Controllable Anisotropy
Source abstract
Abstract
Isotropic Lattices In article number 2401881, Shanmugam Kumar, Ramalingaiah Boda, and Biranchi Panda, introduce nested-isotropic lattice materials with tunable anisotropy, inspired by natural bio-architectures like cortical bone osteons, golden spirals, and fractals. Featuring nine mono-nest and twenty multi-nest X-cross designs with 252 variations, these lattices transition from shear-dominant to tensile/compression-dominant behaviors and achieve isotropy through controlled nesting orientations. With additive manufacturing, these architectures unlock applications in biomedical, aerospace, and structural engineering.
