Abstract

Multibeam selective laser melting (SLM) technology is a new generation of high‐efficiency, high‐precision, high‐performance manufacturing process that uses multiple lasers, multiple galvanometers, and zone scanning to fabricate large and complex metal parts simultaneously. Herein, the microstructure and mechanical properties of both the multibeam‐formed AlSi10Mg isolated and overlap areas are studied. It is found that the SLM‐formed CoCrW samples have a fine microstructure, consisting mainly of both equiaxed and columnar crystals. As the number of scans increases, the size of the crystal grains increases. There is a protrusion at the junction of the overlap area and the isolated area of the sample. After the second scan, the surface quality of the sample improves and the roughness is lowered. After four scans, the laser energy density is too large, resulting in spheroidization on the surface, which causes the roughness to decrease. The hardness of the upper surface of the sample is different from the side hardness and increases as the number of scans increases. These results provide some basis for the application of multilaser SLM technology.
