Osteoporosis: case of skeletal biocorrosion
Source abstract
Abstract
AbstractAbstractOsteoporosis describes a fascinating and complex biocorrosion process, where the activity of bone resorption cells is greater than that of bone formation cells, resulting in a reduction in the mechanical integrity of the skeleton and ultimately bone fracture. Various physical measurement surrogates have been developed, aimed at identifying the onset of osteoporosis and monitoring the effectiveness of pharmaceutical interventions. The cellular basis of osteoporosis may also be computer simulated, demonstrating a hysteresis in mechanical integrity between resorption and subsequent formation processes. Keywords: OSTEOPOROSISTRABECULARBIOCORROSION
