Abstract

Penetrating, submicrometer X-ray beams probe the mesoscopic crystalline structure of polycrystalline materials in three dimensions. Crystalline morphology, strain, texture, and phase can now be studied non-destructively with a spatial resolution below the grain size of most materials. This new information will lead to a more complete understanding of the mesoscopic structure and dynamics of materials and their relation to materials properties.
