Abstract

In article number 1902697, Dengyun Zhai, Feiyu Kang, and co-workers develop a simple approach to artificial solid electrolyte interface (SEI) design for the K metal anode by covering an aligned carbon nanotube (CNT) film on the surface of the K metal anode. The interface conjugation between the K anode and CNT accompanies the spontaneous reduction of electrolyte and potassiation of CNT. The so-formed potassiophilic CNT framework with an extremely stable SEI layer alters the K deposition behavior and enables a non-dendritic growth of K metal at both ultrahigh deposition capacities and high current densities. The benefits of the on-site spontaneous processes shed new light on the design principles of artificial SEI for alkali metal anodes.
