Renewed Energy for 2015

Advanced Energy Materials· Volume 5· Issue 1

Abstract

Advanced Energy Materials had a year of great change in 2014. We became an exclusively electronic publication, with our subscribers’ clear opinion that saving paper and focusing on new media was the way to go. We also successfully abandoned page numbers and switched to article numbers instead, giving authors and readers the added ability of obtaining an article's final citation detail before inclusion in an issue, in the format Adv. Energy Mater. , , <7-digit article number>. The number of issues in 2014 was increased from 12 to 18, in order to increase our publication space to better deal with the great growth of the journal. We also said good-bye to our former Editor-in-Chief, Dr. Martin Ottmar, who founded the journal over four years ago, in 2010, and who made it possible for the journal to become the great success story it is until today. Dr. Martin Ottmar will be greatly missed, and we wish him all the best in his future endeavors. Given the changes in staff and their effect on the journal, I take this opportunity to present a few changes that will take place in the next few months, to clarify who your point-of-contact will be, even though these changes will not affect the everyday activities of the journal. With Martin Ottmar's farewell, Dr. Jörn Ritterbusch, currently also Editor-in-Chief of Advanced Functional Materials, will take over the journal's Editor-in-Chief position in addition to the AFM editorship, taking on all administrative responsibilities. Also, my colleague Dr. Guangchen Xu will be promoted to Deputy Editor, to help with the journal's growing challenges. I will continue on as Deputy Editor until the end of 2014, when I will go on maternity leave and my responsibilities will then be taken over temporarily by Dr. Xu until my return. As I mentioned before, our editorial everyday work will continue undisturbed, and our authors, reviewers, and readers will be met with seamless continuity in our services. As a new stage in the journal's life begins, we aim at continuing to provide you and our readership with the same high-quality, high-impact content and excellence in energy-related research. In 2014, the journal's success story kept developing, as it obtained its second, and highest, impact factor, 14.385, a 43% leap from last year's value. We, the editors of Advanced Energy Materials, are ecstatic, knowing that this was only possible due to our authors believing in the journal and sending us their best work, due to our reviewers, who invested their time and effort in making sure only excellent content was accepted for publication, and our readers, who embraced the journal, verified the worth of our content, and acknowledged in their own research the work being published by our journal. We would therefore like to take this opportunity to thank all of you, authors, peer-reviewers, and readers, who made our success possible. Thank you! As I mentioned, this Impact factor is a result of our authors’ best work, therefore I would like to invite you to take a closer look at the most-cited papers in Advanced Energy Materials for the period 2012–2013, listed in Table 1, to find for yourself some of our most-read manuscripts. In 2014, we saw the number of manuscripts submitted increase to over 2000 papers, from the approximate 1800 we had received in 2013. Even with the increased publication space, this flood of manuscripts resulted in a very strict selection process, with less than 15% of manuscripts being accepted. Determining what manuscripts should be published is always a challenging chore, with so many submissions to choose from. We hope we have done a good job of choosing the best ones, which would have been impossible without our reviewers’ vital contribution to the evaluation and selection process. We have many reviewers to thank for over 1700 reports written, invaluable work without which we would not be the journal that we are. In 2015, our Advanced family will receive two new additions, with Advanced Electronic Materials and Advanced Science, our youngest siblings, being launched. They will be edited in the proven Advanced fashion, and while Advanced Electronic Materials aims to become the top interdisciplinary forum for peer-reviewed high-quality high-impact research in the fields of materials science, physics, and engineering of electronic and magnetic materials, Advanced Science is our new open access journal publishing research from all areas of science. More information can be found online at http://www.advelectronicmat.com and http://www.advancedscience.com, respectively. Make sure you direct your librarian to our complimentary access opt-in web page at http://www.wileyonlinelibrary.com/newjournals-optin for free access to Advanced Electronic Materials for your institution in 2015 and 2016. Our mother journal Advanced Materials, which received its highest-ever Impact Factor of 15.409, has continued to strive as the top weekly journal publishing the latest progress research in all areas of materials science, covering chemistry and physics of functional materials. Advanced Healthcare Materials received its first Impact Factor, a partial one-year impact factor of 4.88 (Thomson Reuters ISI's Journal Citation Report), providing a strong foundation as a leading journal in the vibrant and ever-expanding field of biomedical materials. Advanced Optical Materials received its first Immediacy Index of 0.867, publishing extremely high quality research. The journal will continue to strengthen its position among the top journals in materials science and optics, and will receive its first Impact Factor in 2015. Finally, our sister journal launched in 2014, Advanced Materials Interfaces, will receive its first partial one-year impact factor in 2016. The success and prosperity our journals have reaped in 2014 would not have been possible without the continued support of our Editorial Advisory Board members, our authors, reviewers, and readers. For Advanced Energy Materials, we anticipate an ever-growing number of manuscript submissions in 2015, which will again give us editors the privilege and challenge of picking the best of the best for publication. I hope to see your next high-quality and high-impact manuscript amongst them!
