Abstract

On page 991, Noel C. Giebink, John A. Rogers, and co-workers exploit microscale, bifacial thin-film GaAs solar cells embedded in luminescent substrates to double the output power under sunlight. The epitaxial liftoff and transfer printing techniques exhibit a potential for large-scale module production. Optimal design combines a free-standing waveguide layer with a diffuse backside reflector, delivering the highest photocurrent for microcells.
